Seeing a koala up close is a must-do Aussie activity, but assisting this endangered creature is much better. You may do both at the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie.
The koala hospital, which is almost exclusively staffed by volunteers, rehabilitates sick and injured koalas and conducts significant research into saving wild koala populations. The hospital’s goal is to release the residents back into the wild, albeit some are too gravely injured and will be cared for by these dedicated volunteers for the rest of their lives.
When you arrive, stop by the whiteboard to hear about the present residents and their experiences. Dog bites, automobile accidents, wildfire burns, and sickness are among the most prevalent ailments, and employees caring for the koalas can be observed through a window in the treatment area. Walking around the rehabilitation yards is a terrific chance to get up up and personal with the koalas.
The koala hospital is free to see, however donations are greatly welcomed and go straight to supporting the koalas. Adopting a koala is also a terrific way to show someone you care about animals.
